HH Sheikha Moza Meets Italian Prime Minister

Rome, Italy, 03 June 2016

HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of the Education Above All foundation, was welcomed today by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, in the Palazzo Chigi in Rome, Italy .

Her Highness and the Prime Minister discussed topics related to providing quality education to refugees.

Her Highness heard first hand from Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on what the Italian Government is doing to help refugees in Italy, and what efforts it is undertaking, alongside other world powers, to alleviate the suffering in Syria and support diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.

Drawing on the work of her initiatives, as well as her role as a UN advocate for the 2030 sustainable development goals, Her Highness discussed with the Prime Minister how refugee communities often describe education as their top priority, recognising the opportunity that education gives them to fulfil their lives and for their families to prosper.

Education Above All, which Her Highness established in 2012, has invested to provide primary education for almost seven million children and is on track to reach 10 million by the end of the year. This will include over one million Syrian refugees.
