HH Sheikha Moza opens 5th International Forum on Children with Special Needs


Doha, Qatar, 22 January 2012

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser on Sunday morning inaugurated the Fifth Shafallah International Forum held this year under the theme "Crisis, Conflict and Disability: Ensuring Equality" at the Shafallah Center for Children with Special Needs . The inaugural session discussed the impact of crisis, armed conflicts and means of protecting rights of refugees with special needs and promoting the condition of people with disabilities across the world. 

The 5h Shafallah International Forum underlined the need to preserve the rights of people with special needs, not to ignore them, to search for people and channels caring and struggling for this neglected group. 

The forum also discussed the impact of the current crises and circumstances which people will special needs are facing specially in refugee camps and conflict zones in the Middle East and Africa, such as the recent natural disasters in Japan, Haiti, Pakistan and the United States.

The 5th Forum, held under the theme "Crisis, Conflict and Disability: Ensuring Equality", is viewed as one of the most important forums concerned with issues of people with special needs.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Shafallah Centre for Children with special needs Hassan Ali bin Ali in a speech he delivered at the forum that this year's forum seeks to make a real difference for people with disabilities in order to implement the UN Convention, to ensure their rights and to draw up policies that are focused on their interests.
