Special Presentation made to HH Sheikha Moza at the 10 year anniversary of Texas A&M University at Qatar gala

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser attended the tenth anniversary celebration of Texas A&M at Qatar on 6 January. At the event, the Dean of the University, Dr. Mark H. Weichold, presented Her Highness with a resolution that supports the Educate A Child initiative she launched in November 2012. Educate A Child is working to trigger significant breakthroughs in bringing quality primary education to the world’s poorest and most marginalised children. Currently, 61 million children are denied basic schooling because of extreme poverty, conflict or natural disaster.

The resolution outlines Texas A&M at Qatar’s dedication to partner with Educate A Child to engage engineering students in developing solutions for practical problems that hinder access to education through engineering design projects.

On receiving the resolution, Her Highness said, “This resolution… sums up the essence of all that Education City is about - equipping our young people with the skills and the knowledge to be global citizens and enabling them to make the world a better place”.

She continued, “… Through education, anything is possible. I look to Aggie students of today and tomorrow to rise to the challenge enshrined in this resolution.”

The event was also attended by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry for the State of Qatar and Texas A&M at Qatar Joint Advisory Board Chairman, and HBKU President and QF Vice President for Education, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, who both gave opening remarks in praise of the university’s achievements over the last decade.
