HH Sheikha Moza meets with President of the Innopolis Foundation and visits education and cultural sites in Seoul, South Korea

Seoul, South Korea, 18 May 2015

Her Highness, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, met with the President of the Innopolis Foundation, Mr. Cha-dong Kim. They discussed avenues of cooperation with Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP). QSTP and Innopolis Foundation are focused on establishing a cooperative framework that would promote and facilitate technology commercialization including technology transfer and start-up support between both institutions.

Following the meeting, Her Highness visited the Seoul Namsung Elementary School, where she interacted with students and teachers to observe and share best practices in teaching and learning. The public school emphasises elements of a ‘self-directed learning’ approach, which encourages pupils to take more initiative in the educational process. Her Highness met with the schoolchildren and attended two classes. Sixty students also performed a Taekwondo demonstration - a Korean martial art and the national sport in South Korea.

Her Highness also toured Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, founded by the Samsung Foundation. The museum is renowned for its collection of both traditional Korean and contemporary art and is a centre for research and artistic education. Her Highness visited collections which house traditional ceramics, sculptures and manuscripts as well as viewing 36 pieces of traditional Korean art, which are designated as Korean national treasures. Her Highness was escorted by Museum Director Mrs. Hong Ra-hee, who is married to Mr. Lee Kun-hee, the founder of the Korean electronics company Samsung.

Her Highness began her visit to South Korea on Saturday by visiting a number of cultural sites. She visited Gyeongbok Palace; the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty established in 1395 and toured The National Folk Museum of Korea, located within the grounds of the palace.
